Construction Skills Certification Scheme
CSCS was set up to help the construction industry to improve quality and reduce accidents.
CSCS cards are increasingly demanded as proof of occupational competence by contractors, public and private clients and others. They cover hundreds of occupations so whatever you do in construction there will be a card that is suitable for you.

CSCS Scheme UK CSCS is demanded as proof of competence by organisations from across the industry as well as employers, clients and Government in conjunction with a nationally recognised trade NVQ. All sites registered under the Considerate Constructors Scheme are required to declare the percentage of workers who hold CSCS cards.
The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) through its document Common Minimum Standards for the Procurement of Built Environments in the Public Sector, states that governmental clients “are to include a contract clause requiring that all members of the supply teams who are workers or a regular visitor to a construction site are registered on the CSCS scheme”.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has made it clear through its support of Construction Commitments 2012 and its own health and safety standard that all professional and site staff involved in construction of the Olympic facilities will be required to hold a valid CSCS card or card affiliated to the scheme.
The Construction Skills Health & Safety Test is the industry standard, taken by over 500,000 people every year. It is designed to ensure everybody working in construction has a minimum level of health and safety awareness. Passing the test is an essential part of qualifying for the major card schemes such as Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and affiliated schemes. Without the right card, it's increasingly difficult to get on site.
Once you have passed your Health and Safety Test and got your NVQ or SVQ, you need to apply for your card. It will then take 2-4 weeks for it to arrive.
If you haven't received your card after 4 weeks, or if you haven't submitted your application form yet, get the contact number for your particular card scheme.
